My son’s 7^th-grade select baseball team wanted to raise money for the team, but parents didn’t want to make subs or take coupon books and candy to sell to coworkers in order to raise $500. I made arrangements for four of us moms to go to the PDC distribution warehouse to watch a training video, find out what was involved, and select routes. A PDC Associate helped us pick routes that she felt we would be successful at. The directories were delivered to my house on a Friday night, parents bagged books that night for two hours, then came back to start delivering the next morning. While some parents were out with the boys, others stayed to continue bagging. By 5 p.m. we were finished. I turned the route delivery information in the following Wednesday morning, and a week-and-a-half later we received our check for $1,975. We didn’t have to sell anything to friends, family or anybody at work. And the best thing was we did the whole project in one weekend.

The Pitt Meadows SS Marauder Air Force Boys Basketball program has worked with PDC and Canwest, delivering telephone directories, since 1982. For 23 years, this fundraiser has been an integral part of our program. It has helped hundreds of high school athletes to meet the team’s financial goals without having to sell something to their family and friends. Delivering phone books requires hard work, teamwork, integrity and family involvement – all of which are values that we prize in the Marauder Basketball Program. Canwest and its employees have been very generous and cooperative in making this fundraiser work for us. They understand the dynamics of getting players and families together to work toward a common goal. They have been very patient in dealing with the young men and women of high school age who deliver the phone books. I have appreciated and continue to appreciate the opportunity to raise badly needed funds by delivering phone books.
